COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – Two Columbus City Council runoff races were decided Tuesday, with Cathy Cook winning the District 9 at-large seat and Rebecca Zajac defeating Laketha Ashe in District 7.
District 9 at-large
Cook won the citywide District 9 at-large seat with roughly 60 percent of the vote, defeating John Anker by approximately 6,000 ballots. The position impacts every neighborhood in Columbus.
The District 9 at-large seat was previously held by the late Judy Thomas, who stepped down last year for health reasons. The council appointed Anker to fill the vacancy.
