Father and son plead not guilty to trafficking 42 pounds of cocaine

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – Jose Tamez III and his son Jose Tamez IV appeared in court today for their preliminary hearing, where new details emerged about what led to their arrest on cocaine trafficking charges.

Investigators say the arrest came after what started as a routine traffic stop for three violations: a covered license plate, cracked windshield, and window tint being too dark. The suspects consented to a search which resulted in finding the drugs.

Defense attorneys questioned investigators about the consent to search and whether a language barrier existed.
