Historic Alabama church destroyed in early morning blaze

St. Paul C.M.E. Church in Crawford was destroyed in a fire early Tuesday morning, reducing the historic Russell County congregation’s building to rubble.

Fire departments from across the region arrived at the Bleecker Road church after receiving reports of a structure fire at approximately 5:05 a.m. on June 23, according to a report from CNAW 2.

Crawford Volunteer Fire Department Chief Tim Jenkins told the outlet crews found the building totally consumed by flames, with the fellowship hall’s roof collapsed and fire spreading into the sanctuary…
