Columbus man convicted of 2023 murder, Russell County jury deliberates for more than an hour

PHENIX CITY, Ala. (WRBL) — A Columbus man has been convicted of the 2023 shooting and murder of Bra’kevious Williams.

According to Russell County District Attorney Rick Chancey, a Russell County jury deliberated the case for more than an hour on Friday, July 17, 2026, before finding Michael Mayberry guilty of shooting Williams on Oct. 8, 2023.

According to witness accounts and testimonies, Mayberry had a child with a woman who had recently moved to Huntsville and took the child with her. A day prior to the shooting, on Oct. 7, 2023, Mayberry set for Huntsville to search for his child…
