The MCSO joined ICE’s 287(g) Program on July 7, according to ICE’s list of participating agencies. The program gives local law enforcement officers the authority to perform specified immigration officer functions.
Participating in this program will not change how the MCSO works, Countryman previously told the Ledger-Enquirer, and deputies will not be “going out and looking for illegal immigrants.”…
