COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – Contractors for the project widening US 27/SR 1/Martha Berry Highway will close Pierce Chapel Road from US 27/SR 1 to Blackmon Road starting Monday, Sept. 21, 2026.
Project managers expect the closure to last two weeks, weather permitting.
The widening project runs from Turnberry Lane in Muscogee County to SR 315 in Harris County.
Why the road is closing
Crews will mill and lower the roadway surface on this section of Pierce Chapel Road to bring it into alignment with plans for the widened US 27/SR 1.
Signage will be posted in advance of the closure to alert local drivers.
Detour route
During the closure, a detour will direct motorists to use Dekalb Drive, Hancock Road and Blackmon Road to get to and from the rest of Pierce Chapel Road…
