COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – City Manager Tyson Begly has selected Everett Bernard Fleming to serve as director of the METRA Transit System. Begly will present the appointment to Columbus Council for approval on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2026, the council’s next scheduled business meeting.
Fleming has worked for Columbus Consolidated Government since 2017, serving as parking manager, planning manager, assistant director and interim director of METRA since December 2025. He has more than 28 years of experience in marketing, procurement, program development, finance, transit and federal regulations, according to the release.
He is certified and trained in DBE Procurement Systems, Financial Management Overview, Climate Changes and the Landscape of Electric Vehicles, Procurement – RFP and Competitive Contract Negotiations, and Title IV and Public Transit. He also has more than five years of auditing and tax experience with Lockheed Martin.
Recognition and background
Fleming was recognized in Fortune Magazine with Qwest for awards related to a contract that provided computer firewall protection for Qwest employees, among other awards, according to the release.
