Since the Georgia Trust for Local News bought the Ledger-Enquirer two months ago, we have expanded our coverage of the Chattahoochee Valley. That growth includes hiring more reporters to better serve the Columbus area.
In this second installment of our “Meet the L-E” series, we’re featuring Madeline Shapiro, who joined our team in June as an intern from Emory University. Now, she works with us full-time as our general assignment reporter.
Hailing from Stamford, Connecticut, she is thrilled to get to know and report on Columbus and surrounding communities in west Georgia and east Alabama.
Community focused
As a general assignment reporter, her focus is on the community. Her approach to the job is less about announcements and more about what’s underneath them. She said her goal is to be “someone who’s out and present” in the community and willing to “show their face. Be someone who is present at important events.”…
