COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Instead of bagging groceries, more than a dozen Publix supermarket employees bagged food for those in need at Feeding the Valley.
Thursday morning, nearly 40 Publix employees labeled cans, bagged food for the community, and helped prepare the 1,900 hot meals that would be delivered to the community later in the day.
“It makes a big difference when we have large corporate groups that are so supportive of us, like Publix, who come in and spend a half a day or a full day, doing work for us,” Sheppard said. “We couldn’t do the work we do without the tremendous support of the community, and Publix shows that every day… not only food and financial support, but also their volunteer support.”
Sheppard told WRBL News 3 that last year volunteers donated about 93,000 hours. He said that’s the equivalent of 45 additional full-time staff members.
