The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) has awarded $82,502 to Bicycle Columbus, serving to make the streets and roads of the city a safer place to walk, bike, and roll. Perfect timing as October is National Pedestrian Safety Month, a reminder that road safety requires mutual alertness and caution by drivers, walkers, cyclists, and scooter users.
The grant will be used to organize events distributing educational and safety materials, and to conduct pedestrian and bicycle conditions audits, host family-friendly group bicycle rides, and partner with community organizations in their efforts to make our streets safer.
“The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety continues to work with state and local agencies to develop innovative projects and campaigns that are designed to save lives and protect everyone traveling on Georgia’s roads and highways,” said Allen Poole, Director of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. “We remind all drivers that following the rules of the road not only helps save your life but also helps to make sure others make it home safely to their families as well.”
“Bicycle Columbus and GOHS are committed to the same goal of zero traffic fatalities”, says Stacy Roberts, Executive Director of Bicycle Columbus. “By maintaining this partnership with GOHS, we will be able to continue working toward this goal by utilizing the Safe System Approach.”
