CPD arrests two, seizes altered weapons

COLUMBUS, Ga. ( WRBL ) – The Columbus Police Department said that two men were arrested after attempting to flee law enforcement, leading to authorities finding modified weapons.

According to CPD, on Monday, around 11:10 p.m., officers noticed a vehicle “traveling recklessly” in the area of Pierce Road and Northstar Drive.

Officers witnessed four individuals exit the vehicle and attempt to evade arrest by fleeing on foot.

CPD says officers were able to capture two out of the four suspects in the 5000 block of Sentry Street during the foot chase. During the pursuit, two altered firearms were found, a Glock with a switch and drum magazine and an AR-style pistol with attachments.

The following suspects were arrested and charged with:

22-year-old Jaleen Mathis –

  • Theft by receiving (stolen vehicle)
  • Possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime
  • Unlawful possession of a firearm
  • Convicted felon in possession of a firearm
  • Obstruction

18-year-old Tyler Bizzard –

  • Theft by receiving (stolen vehicle)
  • Possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime
  • Unlawful possession of a firearm
  • Obstruction
