COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Families in the Chattahoochee Valley area may be eligible for a free car seat.
The West Central Health District was awarded the 2024 “Car Seat Mini-Grant” by the Georgia Department of Public Health’s Injury Prevention Program. That means financially eligible citizens in eight counties (Chattahoochee, Crisp, Dooly, Harris, Macon, Marion, Muscogee and Stewart) may have the opportunity to learn about car seat safety and receive a car seat.
The program is funded by the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. District Child Health Coordinator of the West Central Health District Kiara Loud says it’s about safety.
“It’s our responsibility to keep our children safe,” said Loud. “The Car Seat Mini-Grant is a great opportunity to help our community and help protect our children from serious injuries or death in motor vehicle crashes.”
According to the West Central Health District, car and booster seats provided through the grant saved more than 437 Georgia children involved in car crashes. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration even says car seats reduce fatal injuries by 71% for infants and 54% for ages one through four.
