Columbus man arrested on charge of fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement

EUFAULA, Ala. (WRBL) — A Columbus man was arrested on Tuesday following what police say was a high speed chase in Eufaula.

Michael Tavaris Rumph, 28, is being charged with fleeing and attempting to elude a law enforcement officer.

According to the Eufaula Police Department, Rumph led officers on a high-speed chase starting around the 500 block of South Eufaula Avenue. The chase headed northbound onto westbound Highway 82.

Rump left his vehicle on foot near Country Road 49. Dog teams with the Department of Corrections and Barbour Country Sheriff’s Office tracked Rumph for nearly 10 miles in three hours before arresting him.

Police say Rumph was wanted by the ATF and has warrants in Columbus. Those two felony charges will be added onto Rumph’s other two charges.
