COLUMBUS, Ga. ( WRBL ) — Friday morning the city of Columbus was still cleaning up from a flooding issue inside the new city hall.
Servpro was still on site this morning after a flooding issue forced the city to shut down City Hall – formerly the Synovus building on First Avenue – Thursday afternoon.
City manager Isaiah Hugley tells WRBL that the issue started on the third floor when a city worker was fixing a bathroom urinal.
That triggered a water-damage issue on all three floors.
Servpro – a professional clean-up company – has been working to dry out the building.
“Most of the carpet that got wet as a result of the water leak is dry. Not all areas were affected from the water leak,” said Hugley. “We will continue to dehumidify the building today, and over the weekend. We are working to get all computers and phones working today. Until all phones are reactivated, calls have been transferred to 311. All offices in the new city hall are open for business today.”
Some city departments – including the mayor and city manager – began working out of the building last year.
