COLUMBUS, Ga. ( WRBL ) — Friday afternoon, St. Francis-Emory Healthcare held its inaugural Research Symposium.
The symposium highlighted the work from various residency programs around Georgia, such as, Morehouse, Piedmont Midtown, Mercer, Martin Army Community Hospital and St. Francis. The projects were judged based on delivery, poster creativity, originality, and presentation. Awards were given to the best research presentations.
Over 80 medical professions, residents and students were in attendance.
Anand Gupta, Acute Care Services Medical Director at St. Francis says symposiums like these are important for networking that can lead to more collaborations in the future.
“This is such a noble endeavor, and this is first of a kind event in Columbus. This will help establish the Columbus area as a medical center of excellence, and this will also help us in retaining physicians, “shared Gupta.
WRBL spoke with Vic Chhokar, Social Program Director for St. Francis, who says this is the next step in the evolution of the medical education for several residents. The symposium gives students and residents the platform to present data that can be used for medical treatments in the future.
