ATLANTA ( WRBL ) — On Tuesday morning Georgia state Rep. Richard Smith died unexpectedly in his Columbus home.
The 78-year-old Republican lawmaker had been fighting flu-like symptoms.
Smith was the chairman of the powerful House Rules Committee and his death triggered a flood of remembrances.
WRBL went to the Capitol in Atlanta last week and sat down with Speaker of the House Jon Burns. The speaker was a colleague, friend and ally of Smith’s. The two men shared a bond and in this week’s Sunday Conversation, Burns opened up about his loss, his friendship and what happens to legislation Smith was touting.
