The City of Opelika, in collaboration with the Lee-Russell Council of Governments, has opened the new Opelika Senior Center at 1103 Glenn Street. The opening was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Mayor Gary Fuller thanked Jackie Pinkard for the initial idea of the center and expressed hope that seniors would benefit from the facility.
The Lee-Russell Council of Governments Area Agency on Aging will run the Opelika Senior Center. The center will provide services such as daily meals, social activities, health education, exercise, and recreation under the Elderly Nutrition Program (ENP). Additionally, the center’s staff and volunteers will assist seniors with transportation and health management programs.
The center’s services are free for attendees. Lisa Sandt, the Executive Director of the Lee-Russell Council of Governments, thanked the partners who contributed to the center’s establishment, including the City of Opelika, state delegates, Opelika City Council, and Mid-South RC & D.
