COLUMBUS, Ga ( WRBL ) — The Columbus City Council voted to release meeting agendas earlier. The change was made in a vote at the Feb. 13 council meeting.
Councilor JoAnne Cogle of District 7 introduced the topic of releasing meeting agendas earlier to the public. Until now, councilors have recieved agendas on Wednesdays, while they become publicly available on Fridays. Cogle suggested moving the release of public agendas to Thursdays at 5 p.m.
Cogle said moving up the viewability of the meeting agendas would help avoid repeat topics of discussion at city council meetings. This has been a problem in the past because the prior system created an almost-two-week delay before citizens could be heard at city council.

Citizens can still submit their requests for discussion by Fridays at noon.
Councilor Bruce Huff of District 3 noted employees of the council should be considered, as this directly affects their current workloads. Releasing the meeting agendas sooner could require schedule changes to make sure everything is done in a timely fashion.
