95th Southeastern Amateur tees off in Columbus

COLUMBUS (WRBL) – The Southeastern Amateur has been a proving ground for amateur golfers nationwide for nearly a century. Every summer, the best amateur golfers make their way to Columbus, for an opportunity to kickstart their professional career by winning the Jordan-Martin Trophy. The 95th edition of the Southeastern Amateur got underway on Thursday afternoon. Heavy rains over the last few days have provided a softer course for competitors, and the scores have reflected that. Alex Vandermoten leads after the first round with a 7-under 63. He leads by three shots over a trio of golfers tied for second at 4-under: Chase Carroll, Jones Free, and Carter Smith.

You can hear from Vandermoten, Carroll, and SE Amateur Committee Member Allen Taber in the video player above.
