‘It’s a big deal to me’: 24 people become United State citizens in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ga. ( WRBL) Thursday morning the Middle District of Georgia conducted a naturalization ceremony.

Here 24 people from 16 countries became United State Citizens. The newest citizens of the United States were given the opportunity to introduce themselves and their origin countries.

The citizens recited the pledge of allegiance and were read their new rights. Citizens received naturalization certificates and took pictures in front of the American flag with the U.S. Judge Clay Land.

Harriett Nappier, who is originally from Uganda says she will remember this day for the rest of her life.

“I’ll remember this place and everyone that was here and just the fact that I became a United States Citizen today, it’s a big deal to me,” Nappier says.

Nappier waited five years to achieve citizenship. She told News 3 she shed a tear when reciting the pledge of allegiance.

Students from Brookstone High School were in attendance. These students participating in the Federal Judges civics education project were recognized for achieving a 90 or above on the citizenship test.
