AT&T donates 100 brand-new laptops to Columbus students

COLUMBUS, Ga. ( WRBL ) — A select group of local students is getting a technology upgrade. AT&T came together with 100 Black Men of Columbus and other organizations to donate 100 new laptops to Columbus students.

The donation is part of a local effort to help bridge the digital divide for Columbus youth, according to Mayor Skip Henderson.

“It’s important for them to have internet access. I mean, that’s what makes our communities thrive,” AT&T President for Southeastern Coastal States Vanessa Harrison said.

The laptops not only have access to the internet but are also pre-outfitted with Microsoft Office Suite. Donors hope this combination will help students complete homework, apply for jobs and educational opportunities, as well as offer networking capabilities.

Harrison said, “That’s what affords the children and families to be able to take that next step in life, by having a resource for them to be able to use.”
