Teenagers accused of shooting Muscogee County student to death make first court appearances

COLUMBUS, Ga. ( WRBL ) — Three Columbus teenagers accused of shooting a 15-year-old high school freshman to death as he got off a school bus made their first court appearances on Thursday morning.

Gregory Nelson, Demetrius Miles and Marquis Roberts appeared in front of Recorder’s Court Judge Susan Henderson.

Along with Roannil Clanton, the teens are accused of shooting 15-year-old Earkavion Lee to death on Sept. 19.

New information about surveillance video came out in court. Columbus Police detective Robert Nicholas testified that police had video showing all four suspects in a silver Kia less than 10 minutes after the shooting on Watkins drive.

Witnesses identified the Kia as the get-away car. The Kia was spotted less than two and a half miles from the shooting scene. Nicholas says the suspects were clearly identifiable and there were at least three guns visible on the video.

“The same methods that were used to identify Mr. Clayton were also used to identify the three defendants before you today,” said Nicholas. “And that is video surveillance, where they can be seen occupying in the car, they can be seen armed and they can clearly be identified.”
