Beloved Georgia surgeon killed in Alabama DUI crash, police say: Man in US illegally held without bond

An Auburn man who authorities say is in the U.S. illegally has been denied bond on charges that he killed a Columbus doctor in a wrong-way crash in September. Armin Rubido Gomez Lopez, 41, is charged with reckless manslaughter – a felony – in the Sept. 7 crash on Interstate 85 in Lee County, according to Opelika police. Killed was Dr. Malcolm Goodchild, a prominent Columbus surgeon.
