‘I think it sends a very clear message’: Columbus Mayor weighs in on cities economy

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) The City of Columbus is working to become more competitive by 2025. The city plans to achieve this by attracting and retaining talent in Columbus.

The Columbus 2025 plan has strategies to attract talent like offering incentives directly to individuals to come back and make Columbus home again.

However, Mayor Skip Henderson says there are other strategies being used to recruit talent like reducing crime.

“Obviously, people before they move into a community are going to look at a number of things. And one of those things is how are they handling this public safety?  And I think what it sends a very clear message about is that we are serious about keeping our folks safe and we’re serious about finding resources that will help. Some of these people are involved in negative activities. Have a better way of life and a better option.”

According to the Columbus 2025 plan, if the city grows by nearly 13,000 residents who make close to $60,000 the city can add $731 Million into the economy.
