Synovus Park taking shape as Columbus Clingstones home opener is five months away

COLUMBUS, Ga. ( WRBL ) — If you have not driven past Synovus Park – formerly Golden Park – recently, you might not recognize it.

The old 73-year-old ballpark is undergoing a $50 million dollar renovation. The late time WRBL was inside the park back in June for the ground-breaking. It looks a lot different today. And in five months the Atlanta Braves Double A team, the Columbus Clingstones will be taking the field behind me.

Brasfield & Gorrie is building a new ballpark on top of a historic old structure that carries so many memories.

“I think that’s a very fair word that we have a reimagined Golden Park into the modern era of baseball,” said Wes Kelley, vice president and regional manager for Brasfield & Gorrie. “I think  our design partner in Populous. They are first-class.  They know exactly how these facilities  should look and how they should run and how they meet the Player Development League Standards of Major League Baseball, and taking  the existing gem that was Golden Park and incorporating all those new  design elements  has been something that they’ve done masterfully.”
