One killed following house fire in Columbus

Authorities are investigating after a house fire claimed the life of one person overnight.

Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan says 54-year-old Yancer Horton died from asphyxiation after a fire at a home in the 2700 block of Peabody Avenue.

Columbus Fire Marshall John Shull tells WRBL it was a vacant home and Horton may have been squatting at the property. Shull says the fire resulted in more than $50,000 worth of damage.
