As Georgia residents prepare for incoming winter weather , the government is doing the same.
Gov. Brian Kemp posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) on Wednesday that state offices within affected areas north of and including Augusta, Columbus, and Macon will be closed on Friday and employees will be working remotely. This does not include those run by local governments/municipalities.
This comes after the National Weather Service issued a winter weather watch for North Georgia, while areas like Augusta, Columbus, and Macon are not included in it, snow and freezing conditions are still in their forecast.
Georgia agencies have been monitoring the weather since Tuesday and making preparations.
“Along with state agency leaders, I’m urging Georgians to stay weather aware, especially as they make plans for the coming days,” Kemp said in a news release .” Please make necessary arrangements to keep your family safe and stay tuned for more information as this storm approaches.”
