Columbus implements temporary tree debris pickup moratorium following severe weather

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – In response to the damaging storms that swept through the Midland area on Sunday, the Columbus Consolidated Goverment’s Department of Public Works has announced a temporary moratorium on standard yard waste collection policies.

Beginning Wednesday, April 9, through Saturday, May 31, the city will offer free curbside collection of large tree debris in Midland and other areas deemed significantly impacted by the storm. After this grace period, regular fees from Trees for Fees program will resume.

There are specific guidlines to ensure debris is eligible for pickup:

  • Tree debris must be cut to lengths of four feet or less.
  • Debris should be placed at the curb, clear of any stationary objects.
  • Items that do not meet these requiremnts will not be collected and must be disposed of by the resident.
