Columbus police activate school zone speed cameras at 20 locations

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – The Columbus Police Department has officially activated automated speed enforcement cameras at 20 school zones throughout the city.

These are the first wave of zones to go live as part of CPD’s School Zone Safety Program, which aims to reduce speeding during school traffic hours and improve student safety. Drivers traveling 11 mph or more above the posted speed limit during active school zone hours may now receive either a warning or a citation depending on the location.

The following schools are currently issuing warnings:

  • Clubview Elementary School
  • Dimon Elementary School
  • Double Churches Elementary School
  • Eagle Ridge Academy / Shaw High School
  • Eddy Middle School / South Columbus Elementary School
  • Forrest Road Elementary School
  • Fort Middle School
  • Georgetown Elementary School
  • Hannan Elementary School
  • Lonnie Jackson Academy / Rothschild Middle School
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School
  • Rigdon Road Elementary / Rainey-McCullers School of the Arts
  • River Road Elementary School

The following schools are actively issuing citations:

  • Blackmon Road Middle School
  • Blanchard Elementary School
  • Davis Elementary School
  • Double Churches Middle School
  • Midland Middle School
  • Reese Road Leadership Academy
  • Waddell Elementary School / Wynnton Arts Academy
