COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — A raccoon has tested positive for rabies in the Columbus area, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health.
According to the department, a raccoon that was near the Japonica Drive and Laurel Drive area was tested Thursday by the state laboratory and health officials detected rabies.
Residents and visitors in the area are advised to:
- Do not pick up or handle any stray or wild animals
- Report any animal bites and/or scratches
- report animals which are behaving strange or aggressively
