Columbus sees major crime drop, but recent violence stirs concern

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – Violence in Columbus over the Fourth of July holiday weekend has left many residents on edge. Several shootings resulted in four deaths and multiple injuries.

News Leader 9 sat down with lead investigators from the Columbus Police Department following what they described as a violent holiday weekend.

From the start of the year through July 1, Columbus has recorded nearly 3,000 crimes, including murders and robberies, according to police data. That marks a significant decrease from over 4,000 crimes during the same period last year…
