Class action lawsuit filed against Aflac over alleged data breach

We recently filed a nationwide class action lawsuit against Aflac, the largest supplemental insurance provider in the U.S., following a cyberattack that may have exposed sensitive customer information. The lawsuit, filed by Dee Miles, Larry Golston, and Leon Hampton, claims that Aflac failed to properly protect its policyholders’ private data.

The lawsuit was filed in federal court in Columbus, Georgia, home to Aflac’s headquarters and the site of the reported breach, and accuses Aflac of negligence, breach of contract, invasion of privacy, and unjust enrichment. The complaint aims to secure recovery for all Aflac policyholders who have been affected by the company failing to protect their private information. “The goal is to handle this as swiftly as possible so that those impacted can get the justice they deserve.”

Hackers reportedly broke into Aflac’s internal systems. While the full details are still coming out, early investigations suggest that a lot of personal data may have been accessed. Aflac hasn’t confirmed exactly what was stolen, but cyberattacks like this often involve names, contact info, policy numbers, claims history, and sometimes even Social Security numbers or bank details…
