Columbus City Council passes amended ordinance on homelessness

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — A controversial proposal prohibiting camping on public property had its second reading at City Council, Tuesday. A few changes were made to the ordinance following public backlash. Council approved the amended camping ordinance in a 9–1 vote, with Councilor Cogle opposed.

Camping on public property remained prohibited, but the amendment gives people at least eight days after a written or oral warning to move. That same grace period applies before unattended property can be removed a change supporters say gives authorities more time to connect people with help.
