COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL ) – The National Infantry Museum will rededicate their Global War on Terror Memorial in a ceremony honoring hundreds of Gold Star families in Columbus. A Gold Star family are the immediate family members of an active-duty service member who dies in the line of duty.
The NIM hopes by rededicating the memorial to these families it can provide some comfort to them that they’re loved ones will never be forgotten. Museum officials say the Global War on Terror Memorial is on the only one in the nation that has all 7,000 plus service member names that died in the war since the September 11th attacks.
President of the National Infantry Foundation and retired Brigadier General Pete Jones says the important part of the memorial doesn’t have to do with the statues, or the pictures on the plaques. Instead, it’s the stories behind the names, which honor the fallen service members…
