Editor’s Note: We received the incredibly sad news that Phenix City Police Officer Luke Bailey lost his battle with cancer on Monday afternoon, just before we went to press. We struggled with the decision whether or not to run what is Luke’s last interview, but decided that his message of hope is one our community needs to hear, and in that way, his service lives on. Also, we feel that publishing the article will promote his GoFundMe account to help pay for remaining medical expenses and to give support to his daughter. Phenix City Police Officer Luke Bailey is no stranger to serving his community. But now, it’s the community that’s rallying around him. After being diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, Bailey has been overwhelmed by the support pouring in from friends, coworkers, and even strangers determined to help him in his fight.
Luke is currently battling a rare cancer called rhabdomyosarcoma. He said he felt a muscle pull while working out in January, and after giving it time to heal, he noticed it was not getting better, so he visited a doctor in March…
