Man dies by apparent self-inflicted gunshot after deputy pursuit in Salem

SALEM, Ala. (WRBL) — A 54-year-old man is dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound following a brief vehicle pursuit Tuesday evening in Lee County.

Sheriff Jay Jones says deputies were called to the area of Lee Road 831 in Salem in response to a domestic disturbance between a man and a woman who were in a romantic relationship. When deputies arrived, they learned the man allegedly tried to set a vehicle on fire before leaving the scene.

Deputies soon located a truck matching the description and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Sheriff Jones says the driver refused to stop, leading deputies on a short pursuit. The truck eventually came to a stop near Lee Roads 240 and 241 in Salem…
