Charles W. Jenkins, Sr., a 1967 graduate of the Practical Nursing program at South Georgia Technical College (SGTC), has been named the institution’s 2025 Alumnus of the Year. Jenkins, who lives in Columbus, Georgia, was recognized for his long career in nursing and his support of technical education in the state. His name was also submitted to the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) and acknowledged at the 2025 Fall Leadership Conference in Savannah. Alumni from 22 technical colleges in Georgia were recognized at the event.
SGTC President Dr. John Watford commended Jenkins for his dedication and service. Jenkins retired after a 40-year career in nursing. Dr. Watford noted that Jenkins entered the field when there were few male nurses and faced challenges related to that. Jenkins began his nursing education in 1966, motivated by a desire to care for his sister, who was paraplegic.
The award honors alumni who have made contributions in their fields, shown leadership in their communities, and supported technical education in Georgia. Jenkins’ achievements were mentioned at the SGTC November Board of Directors meeting and at the TCSG conference.
