Update: Dense fog advisory issued for Alabama Saturday morning – visibility as low as 1/4 mile

The National Weather Service issued an updated dense fog advisory at 6:50 a.m. on Saturday valid between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. for Lowndes, Montgomery, Macon, Bullock, Lee, Russell, Pike and Barbour counties.

The weather service says to be ready for, “Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.”

“Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. An extended period of subfreezing temperatures could cause pipes to burst. Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous,” adds the weather service. “Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves. Keep pets indoors as much as possible. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. If driving, slow down, use your headlights, and leave plenty of distance ahead of you.”
