Columbus Council approves $3.3M housing development for South Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – Columbus City Council approved a $3.3 million grant Tuesday night to address the city’s affordable housing shortage by building new homes on Farr Road in South Columbus.

The project will transform a former mobile home park into 62 energy-efficient single-family homes, according to NeighborWorks of Columbus, which is spearheading the development.

“We are going to have 62 energy efficient single family homes. It’s going to be about 8 to 10 minutes from our latest development Elliott’s Walk,” a NeighborWorks representative said.

Housing need in Columbus

According to the U.S. Census, Columbus has a median household income near $52,000 and a median gross rent above $1,000. The 62 affordable homes on Farr Road will provide more stable, lower-cost housing options for families…
