Radio personality, news anchor Chuck Leonard dies

COLUMBUS, Ga. -A well-known and highly respected television news anchor and radio personality died late Friday, his wife and WTVM television station announced.

Charles Mashburn, known to the community as Chuck Leonard, was born Sept. 1, 1954. He was a Birmingham, Alabama, native, and he began his broadcasting career there in 1974.

Not long after, he made his way to the Dothan market, where he worked alongside Connor Vernon, another deceased legend, oatWKMX Radio 106.7. Their chemistry put them at the top of the ratings in the market.

Leonard went on to WTVM, the CBS affiliate in Columbus, Georgia, beginning in 1981 as co-host of the talk show “Good Day.” He moved his way up the ladder, and in 1994 he was named co-anchor of News Leader 9 Mornings…
