COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) – Insurance company Aflac has confirmed that a “detailed review” found the personal information of roughly 22.65 million people was impacted by a data breach earlier this year.
Back in June, Aflac confirmed hackers may have obtained Social Security numbers, insurance claims, and health information in a breach, Nexstar’s WRBL previously reported. The company has confirmed that names, contact information, health details, and Social Security numbers are among the personal information that was obtained via the breach.
Suspicious activity was detected on Aflac’s network, the company said in June. Once officials noticed the activity, the company said it followed its protocol for cyber incidents and it “stopped the intrusion within hours.”
