Columbus Family starts New Year with kayaking tradition on the river

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – The Hargrove family spent New Year’s Day on the Chattahoochee River, continuing a tradition that has grown from a small gathering to a community event drawing more than 50 participants.

Since 2017, Melissa Hargrove and her family have organized the New Year’s Day Paddle, bringing together kayakers to start the year doing what they love on Columbus waters.

“Our family started paddling here in the community was so amazing that we wanted to do something that brought the community together on the first day of the year to celebrate that, to celebrate community, celebrate paddling in the water, what we’re so passionate about,” Hargrove said.
