Columbus police: 20 DUI arrests in five-day period ending on New Year’s Day

COLUMBUs, Ga. (WRBL) — On New Year’s Eve, the Columbus Police Department (CPD) made six DUI (driving under the influence) arrests and recovered drugs and firearms.

The arrests came as part of five-day detail supported by CPD’s traffic unit and special operations unit. They were some of 20 total DUI arrests made by CPD during the period from Dec. 28, 2025 to Jan. 1, 2026.

“It’s kind of been, to coin an old phrase, all hands on deck,” said Assistant Police Chief Lance Deaton on Dec. 29, one day into the operation.
