Columbus man acquitted of murder remains in custody on unrelated charges

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – A Columbus man acquitted of murder in a 2021 drive-by shooting remains in custody on unrelated charges, according to the Muscogee County Jail.

A jury found Johnte Williams not guilty today in the shooting death of Demetrius Daniels. Despite the acquittal, Williams cannot be released from custody because he is wanted by the Russell County Sheriff’s Office as a fugitive from justice on an unrelated charge.
