Icy North of Columbus Tonight, Storms on Sunday!

We’re starting out Saturday dry and somewhat mild with temps in the low to mid 40s across the region. We could see an isolated shower locally, but most of the precipitation stays well north of Columbus. This morning, north Alabama and Georgia are seeing a little bit of everything, rain, sleet, freezing rain, and some snow. That’s where most of the problems are going to be this weekend, with ice accumulations approaching half an inch for north Alabama, and possibly exceeding 1 inch for parts of north Georgia through tomorrow morning.

In the warm sector of this storm system, a ling of showers and storms will develop and swing across Alabama early Sunday, arriving around Noon into East Alabama and the western portion of the News 3 viewing area. Between Noon and 4pm, that line of storms, possibly strong, with move through our area. We’ll see some rain on the backside of that live of storms, but by 6pm, most of the rain should be east of Columbus.

Then, we’ll see the cooler air start filtering in, and it’s going to be here for some time. Next week, we’ll see morning lows in the 20s, with teens expected on Tuesday morning. Afternoon highs won’t make it out of the 40s all week. Couple these cold temps with breezy conditions for Monday and Tuesday, and again on Thursday, we’re talking about wind chills possibly into the single digits, especially Tuesday morning…
