Chilly AM Rain, Afternoon Storms, Then Turning COLD!

We’ve got some scattered showers across the Chattahoochee Valley this morning, but with all the temperatures above freezing, it’s all just a chilly rain. As we go through the morning, we’ll see our temps warm up as a warm front lifts northward through the region. Then around Noon, a line of showers and storms associated with a cold front start to move in. Some of the embedded storms could be strong to severe, mainly Columbus southward. Timing for this line will be from Noon, for our East Alabama counties, to 4pm for our West Georgia counties. There will be some rain on the backside of the main line, and that rain should be exiting out by 6p to 7pm.

Once everything exits the area, this evening we’ll see our temperatures start to drop thanks to a northwest breeze ushering in much colder air. This colder air is going to be around for a while! All week we’ll start out in the 20s with afternoon highs in the 40s. Monday and early Tuesday we do need to be extra cautious as wind chills approach single digits Tuesday morning, with morning lows down in the upper teens. The wind will relax a bit by Tuesday afternoon, but it’s still going to be pretty cold regardless.

With cold air in place, we’ll be keeping an eye on a system in the Gulf next weekend. Right now, any precipiation looks to stay well south of us, mainly south Georgia, down into north Florida and along the panhandle. But, if this system were to have a more northerly track, it could make things a little interesting around here. Stay tuned for latest on this system, and get ready to bundle up!…
