Volunteers count Columbus homeless population despite the bitter cold

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Tuesday morning, United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley volunteers and officials braved the frigid temperatures to take the annual “Point in Time” count of the Columbus area’s homeless population.

This year’s early numbers stand at 233, but officials expect it to rise significantly as more of the shelter numbers are reported.

Last year’s count found 303 homeless people in the Columbus community…
