Woman dies in Columbus hospital after Cadillac leaves roadway and strikes tree

An Auburn woman died Monday in a Columbus hospital from injuries she sustained in a single-vehicle crash.

At 1:14 p.m. CST Sunday, Ann Moreira, 86, was critically injured when the 2023 Cadillac XT6 in which she was a passenger left the roadway on Alabama Route 51 and struck a tree near mile marker 101, approximately 13 miles south of Opelika in Lee County, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Moreira was taken to Piedmont Columbus Regional’s midtown hospital for treatment. She was pronounced dead Monday at 3:28 p.m., ALEA said in a news release…
