Former Columbus journalist arrested, says FBI action violates press freedoms

COLUMBUS, GA. (WRBL) — A former Columbus-area journalist is among those arrested following their coverage of a protest at a Minnesota church tied to immigration enforcement.

Georgia Fort, who previously worked as a journalist at WTVM News Leader 9 from 2013 until January 2017, was taken into custody along with former CNN host Don Lemon. Fort and Lemon were arrested Thursday night and Friday morning.

“I don’t feel like I have my first amendment right as a member of the press, because now federal agents are at my door arresting me for filming the church protest a few weeks ago. Again, I don’t have a long time here you guys, but I wanted you to know for me, agents are at my door right now,” Fort said.
