The body of an Opelika man has been discovered after firefighters put out a fire inside a shed.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call today about a fire with a possible victim inside in the 200 block of Lee County Road 712 in Opelika. Deputies along with the Beauregard Volunteer Fire Department, Southwest Volunteer Fire Department and Salem Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to the scene.
They found a storage shed that was being used as a home with smoke coming from inside. They say they tried to search for a victim, but couldn’t fully enter the shed because of the fire. Once the fire was put out, they discovered the body of 49-year-old WC Hawkins…
